Margie Elaine Arnold, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away in Maryland on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the age of 78. Elaine was born in Lamar County, Mississippi to Lonnie and Dorothy Thompson. She was a lifelong member of Brushy Creek Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, where she had served as the pianist in her early years. In the 1980s, she became interested in her family history, and contributed to and co-authored three books on southern Mississippi cemeteries. Her ensuing passion of finding her Confederate ancestors led her to join the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and she served for 25 years as the president of the Nathan Bedford Forrest Chapter of this organization, located in Hattiesburg. Elaine will be remembered as a devoted mother and she considered her most important purpose in life to be taking care of her two sons. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Renee Edens; and a son, Ivan Bullock. Elaine is survived by her husband, Stanley Arnold, Jr; a son, Lance Bullock; two step-sons, Oliver Arnold and Stanley Arnold III and wife, Amber; two sisters, Louise Stringer and husband, Irving and Debbie Peavy and husband, Darrell; an aunt, Eula Faye Cook and husband, Joe; three step-grandchildren; a niece, and seven nephews. The funeral service, officiated by Elder Douglas Barber and Elder Gerald King, will be at 2:00pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the graveside of Enon Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery where friends may visit with the family from 1:30pm until service time. The pallbearers assisting will be Roger Stringer, Eric Stringer, Ryan Stringer, Mark Peavy, Kyle Peavy, Josh Peavy, and Dustin LaBue.
