Mary Loyce “Makie” Morgan, of Morgantown, Mississippi, passed from this life to celebrate in God’s presence on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born in Marion County, Mississippi to Murry and Flora Dunaway and has remained a lifelong resident of Morgantown. Makie lived life to the fullest and enjoyed any activity outdoors, taking pride in maintaining her yard and garden. She was athletic and played church league softball from a teenager until her sixties. She loved to travel and has visited all of the major sights from the East Coast to the West Coast. Makie was a woman of deep faith and served her Lord and her community through her lifelong membership with Morgantown Church of God. She was loved by all who knew her and Makie will be remembered for her strength and resilience in the face of many tragic events in her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Smith; a son, David Wayne Morgan; and her beloved husband, Morris Wayne Morgan. Makie is survived by a host of cousins and friends who loved her.
There will be a funeral service, officiated by Reverend Cory Odom, at Morgantown Church of God on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 4:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00pm until service time. Makie will be laid to rest in Morgantown Cemetery. Randy Bracey, Ryan Bracey, Jordan Holmes, Daniel Lowery, Don Williams, and Jeff Brumfield will serve as pallbearers.
