Mildred Tolar, of Columbia, MS, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the age of 96. Ms. Tolar was born in the Hathorn Community and was a graduate of Oakvale High School and Clarke College. She retired in 1987 after 21 years with the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. She has been a resident of Columbia since 1997 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia. Ms. Tolar will be remembered as a faithful child of God whose consistent Christian life was an inspiration to all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Flora Tolar; two sisters, Christine Breakfield and Helen Ruth Smith; two brothers, Clarence Tolar and James Lavell Tolar; and two nephews, Kenneth Breakfield and Richard Tolar. Ms. Tolar is survived by three nieces, Janet (Jimmy) Ward, Barbara (Harry) Hutchins, and Joyce (Hal) Fortenberry; three nephews, Keith (Cheryle) Tolar, Thomas (Corrette) Tolar, and Steve Tolar. The Tolar family wishes to express their deep appreciation to all of the caregivers for the loving care provided for their aunt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, 114 Marketridge Drive, Ridgeland, MS 39157. The visitation will be on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia. The funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in the funeral home chapel officiated by Doctor Bryant Barnes. Burial will follow in Society Hill Cemetery.
