Pearline A. Givens, of the Tilton Community of Jayess, Mississippi, left this earth to be with her Lord in heaven on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in Jayess to Dewitt and Maggie Alexander and has been a lifelong resident of the Tilton Community. Pearline was a woman of faith who served her Lord and her community through her longtime membership with Sauls Valley Baptist Church. She was very active in her church, serving for many years as the church treasurer, pianist, and Sunday School teacher. Pearline retired from the Department of Human Services and was able to enjoy helping on the family cattle farm.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlene Daniels, Earlene Knowles, and Sue Herron; four brothers, James Alexander, Cecil Alexander, W.P. Alexander, and Hugh White Alexander; and her beloved husband of 43 years, James Edward Givens, Sr.; Pearline is survived by two sons, James E. Givens, Jr (Barbara) and Mark A. Givens; two grandchildren, James E. “Jaed” Givens, III (Samantha) and Kolby Givens; five great-grandchildren, Alex Givens, Dalton Givens, Lucas Givens, Gunnar Givens, and Wacey Givens; a brother-in-law, Louis Givens; a sister-in-law, Kay Givens; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Pearline at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Ralph Sanford and Reverend Mike Alexander, will be at Sauls Valley Baptist Church at 11:00am on Friday, August 29, 2025. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00am until service time. Burial will follow in the Sauls Valley church cemetery assisted by Jaed Givens, Kolby Givens, Wally Givens, Michael Rushing, Art Carney, and Kenneth Carr serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be Alex Givens, Dalton Givens, Lucas Givens, Gunnar Givens and Wacey Givens.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the caregivers and health professionals who have provided loving care and support over the past five years. This includes the staffs of The Grove Nursing Home, The Bee Hive of Brookhaven, and Gentiva Hospice.
