Quida Merle Berry, of Sandy Hook, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the age of 98. She was born in Marion County where she has remained a lifelong resident. For over 50 years, Mrs. Berry sewed parachutes with Pioneer Aerospace in her position as a two-needle operator until she reluctantly retired the age of 80. She enjoyed working in her garden and yard and was an excellent homemaker. Mrs. Berry had a tremendous love for her family and friends and loved cooking for everyone who came to visit. No one left her table hungry. She was a life-long member of New Hope Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood “Buster” Berry; a great-grandson, Ethan Jennings Berry; and seven brothers and sisters and their spouses. Mrs. Berry is survived by her son, Elwood Berry, Jr. (Hilda); three grandsons, William J. “Jay” Berry, Douglas T. “Doug” Berry, and Jeremy B. Berry (Kimberly); three great-grandchildren, Taylor Berry, Presley Berry Cochran (Rusty), and Evie Berry; two great-great-grandchildren, Braelynn Cochran and Everleigh Cochran; several nieces and nephews and many loving friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Myrtles Nursing Center for their care and support during her lengthy illness.
There will be a visitation for Mrs. Berry at Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 9:00am until 11:00am. The funeral service, officiated by Doctor Jerry Watts and Reverend Jerry Kennedy, will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am. Mrs. Berry will be laid to rest in the Berry Family Cemetery.
