Ruth R. Thomas

Ruth Read Thomas was born September 28, 1940, in Louin, Mississippi went to be with Jesus her Lord and Savior June 28, 2025, in Columbia, MS at the age of 84. Ruth was the daughter of Moody and Ora Read.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Stringer and Joyce Read; and her husband, James C Thomas.

After completing 12 years of school, which she never missed a day, Ruth began working various jobs as a secretary. In 1992 Ruth decided to go back to school and get her nursing license where she spent the next 25 years taking care of those that were sick until her retirement at the age of 75.

Ruth leaves behind her children, Terry (Lenora), Jeff (Charlene), Darren, (Judy) and her only daughter, April Wigington McCraw, along with her grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Trent, Josh, Trinity, Colton and Harley; her 11 great-grandchildren that she adored, her brother Jim (Barbara); and sister, Cathy Smalley (Tom).

The children would like to thank The Myrtles nursing home in Columbia as well as Compasses Hospice for the excellent care their mother received during her time there and in her final days. We are eternally grateful for the love shown our mother. Though she will be missed we know that this is not goodbye it is just we will see you later. We love you

A funeral service will be held for Ruth at Reads Chapel, 2772 MS 18, Louin, MS on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:30 am where friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am until service time. Burial will follow in Reads Chapel Cemetery.
