Sadie Mae Hathcock, of Sandy Hook, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her residence on, Monday, December 30, 2024 at the age of 89. She was born in Baxterville, Mississippi to Carsie and Ollie Mae Thompson and has been a resident of Sandy Hook since 2000. Sadie was devoted to her family and work hard to help support them. In addition to her nursing career, she drove a truck, worked in a bakery, and used her sewing skills upholstering and making draperies. Sadie loved to be able to help anyone who had a need and was giving to a fault. When her children were growing up, she was known as the neighborhood mom and would take in anyone who needed a place to be safe. Sadie was loving and nurturing, yet, strong-willed and determined to accomplish anything she started. She enjoyed traveling, music, sewing and crocheting for her family. She was a decent mechanic and an excellent cook. Sadie put her cooking skills to use following Hurricane Katrina and worked for nine months preparing meals for the construction crew rebuilding the railroad bridge in Bay St. Louis. Sadie will be remembered as a dear friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lyn Thompson; a granddaughter, Meagan Upton; and her husband, Robert Hathcock. Sadie is survived by two daughter, Annette Temple and Susie Stegall (Tommy); three sons, Curt Walters (Lisa), Phillip Walters (Ginger), Chad Hathcock (Karen); sister, Margaret “Doodle” Johnson; twelve grandchildren, Tonya Temple, Chris Temple, John C. Temple, III, Carrie Temple, Taia Burngrasser, Chance’ Walters, Tiggy Swain, Kathrine Walters, Jessica Walters, Hannah Runnels, Lauren Crain, Tianna Haslob; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous honorary Walters.
There will be a visitation for Sadie at Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Ricky Daughtery, will be in the funeral home chapel at 10:00am on Saturday, January 4, 2025. She will be laid to rest in the Sandy Hook Baptist Church Cemetery.
