Shelia Kendrick Sumrall

Shelia Kendrick Sumrall, age 72 of Jackson, MS passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024. She was a native of Columbia, MS, studied at Hinds Community College, and served as a concierge at Lakeland Seniors Apartments. Shelia was a devoted woman of faith and taught Sunday school for several years attending First Baptist Church of Jackson and Pine Lake Baptist Church. She was very creative and enjoyed crafting and coloring books. Shelia enjoyed cooking, especially loved to go shopping, and often would selflessly extend her hand to help and care for others.

Ms. Sumrall was preceded in death by her parents, Vennis Kendrick and Katherine Maxwell Kendrick; sisters, Kathi Stennitt and Ivelia Batson; and a brother, Dwight Kendrick.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Thornhill of Magee, MS; sons, Carey Thornhill (Angelia) of Morgantown, MS, and Kyle Thornhill (Lavon) of Bullard, TX; a sister, Debra Thornhill (Vance) of Morgantown; a brother, Dwaine Kendrick of Columbia; and six grandchildren, Chandler Thornhill, Madison Thornhill, Hannah Thornhill, Kyleigh Thornhill, Jayden Forbes, and Gavin Forbes.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbia, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Reverend Allen Turnage will officiate and burial will follow at Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery assisted by Carey Thornhill, Kyle Thornhill, Chandler Thornhill, Gavin Forbes, Jason Beach and Dwaine Kendrick as pallbearers.
