Albert Hughes

A graveside service for Albert C. Hughes, 89, of Columbia, will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.

Born July 19, 1922 in Orangeburg, SC, Mr. Hughes was a son of the late Olin S. Hughes and Claudie L. Mims. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Mr. Hughes was formerly employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company and the Sunbeam Bread Company. He was also the former owner of Claudia’s Florist of West Columbia.

Survivors include a daughter, Claudia (James) Miles of Lexington; sons, George Hughes of Lexington, Albert (Doris) Hughes, Jr. of Blythewood; grandchildren, Breanna H. (Donnie) Rutledge, Terrance J. Miles, Jessica (Daniel) Bradley, Brittany (Jaime) Ballentine and Daniel Cruz; great-grandchildren, Dylan Blackmon and Deanna Rutledge; and a sister, Mildred Goins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Octavia Rivers Hughes; four brothers and five sisters.
