

Columbia: The funeral service for Archie Ingram Barron III, 86, of Columbia, will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 2:30 PM at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church, 629 Wildwood Ave, Columbia, SC, 29203, with The Rev. Tim Burden and The Rev. Ed Lochstampfor officiating. Interment will follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 until 2:30 PM. Additionally, friends may pay their condolences at the residence, 703 Cornhill Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Memorials may be made to the Church. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mr. Barron went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Born in Manning, SC on February 3, 1925, he was a son of the late Archie I. Barron, Jr. and Barnwell Huggins Barron. Mr. Barron proudly served in the US Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. While pursuing a degree in business from Duke University, he met his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathryn. Following his graduation, Mr. Barron and his new wife moved from Cheraw to Columbia where he worked in insurance sales, later at C & S Bank, and he retired after 20 years of service with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. Mr. Barron was deeply involved in service to the community, and was a member and former President of the Five Points Kiwanis Club. A member of Eau Claire Presbyterian Church since 1952, Mr. Barron devoted his time and talents to the church; serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and as an Elder and Elder “Emeritus”.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Richards Barron of Columbia; sons, John Caswell Barron and wife Robin of Columbia, Richard Ingram Barron and wife, Teresa of Rabun Gap, GA, and Michael Glenn Barron of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, John Matthew Barron, Mark Caswell Barron, Whitney Rebekah Hamm and husband Chris, David Ingram Barron, Richard Thomas Barron, and Breanna Norton; great-grandchildren, Kailee, Madison, and Hannah Hamm, and beloved family dog, Lucy. The family wishes to thank Dee Thomas, CNA and Home Care Solutions for their loving care given over the last 6 years.
