An educator by profession, Barbara was a passionate advocate for children. An expert in early literacy intervention, she patiently taught countless children to read, making a lasting impact on so many lives.
The daughter of a flower shop owner, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed participating in her Garden Club. Her love of the beach rivaled her love of gardening, and she was happiest with her toes in the sand and a book in her hand.
She was a coffee enthusiast and a confection connoisseur and believed that both went best when shared with a good friend. Generous and thoughtful, with a gift for storytelling, she was a good friend to many and was beloved by family, colleagues and former students, alike.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, Carmen (4) and Rylan (6). She was a patient and fun playmate and shared her love of children’s literature with them.
She was predeceased in 2016 by the love of her life, Jackie Poston, with whom she is now reunited. She is survived by her only daughter, Jacquelyn, and her son-in-law, Adam.
Her family wishes to thank the friends who supported her as she struggled with dementia, especially Judi Sarvis, who cared for her like a sister. The family also wishes to thank the staff of The Blake at Woodcreek Farms for their love and care, especially Occupational Therapist Colleen McGee and Kayla Creel, whom Barbara “adopted” as her daughters.
