ORANGEBURG – Beulah V. Whetstone Cain was born on February 1, 1921 in Augusta, GA. She was the daughter of James Pope Whetstone and Lena McClenden Whetstone. Her older brother, Edward Whetstone, died as an infant. Her younger brother was, James Marion Whetstone. At two years of age, after the death of her father, she moved with her mother and brother to Blackville, SC. Where she grew up and was a graduate of Blackville High School.
Beulah was employed by Orangeburg Regional Hospital and then the State of South Carolina from which she retired after many years of service. Her life was centered around her family, church, friends and a deep appreciation for music.
Beulah is survived by seven children, daughters, Faye Duane Barrett of Charlotte, NC, Jimmie Marian Story of Hot Springs, SD, Matella Rudd of Bowman, SC and Melissa Ann Denny of Mesquite, TX; sons, Dolfo Jefferson Cain, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Walter Maier Cain of Charlotte, NC and Albert Ryan Cain of Columbia, SC; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, D. J. Cain, Sr.; her brother, Jim Whetstone and one grandson and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Blackville Cemetery.
