Carolyn Bouknight Sloan

A nurse for over 50 years, Mrs. Sloan spent the first few years of her nursing career at Providence Hospital. In 1968, she helped open the first Intensive Care Unit at Baptist Medical Center. Carolyn retired from Kirkland Correctional Institute. A longtime member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, Mrs. Sloan was also a devoted pet lover who provided care for many animals.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Larry C. Sloan, Sr.; son, Larry C. Sloan, Jr.; and sister, Marian Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ruby Bouknight, Jr.

The funeral service for Mrs. Sloan will be held 1 o’clock, Saturday, February 25th, at Fair Lawn United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock, Friday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive.
