

Cheryl Joy Vaughn, 71, of Columbia, SC passed away on July 3rd, 2023 after a period of declining health due to cancer. She was born on August 29, 1951 to the late Floyd F. Vaughn and Anna Martha B. Vaughn Dreher.
Cheryl grew up in the Eau Claire area of Columbia and graduated from Dreher High School. Tragically, while a sophomore at the University of South Carolina, Cheryl was permanently injured in an automobile accident. Cheryl, being of strong will and determination, lived alone in her home with the loving help of family members and friends. While Cheryl did not have children, she adored and pampered her dogs, the last being Bandit. Cheryl professed her belief and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation by grace provided by his death on the cross.
Cheryl is survived by her sister, Beverly V. McAlister (Jay) and brothers: Floyd F. Vaughn Jr. (JoAnn) and Gerald E. Vaughn (Susie), as well as ten nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Ann V. Hanna, as well as her lifelong companion, Skipper Hill.
A funeral service for Cheryl will be held at 11:00 am on July 7, 2023 at Elmwood Cemetery Chapel, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. The family will greet friends at 10:00 am prior to the service. A burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family is most appreciative for the excellent care provided to Cheryl by the staff of Prisma Health Hospice, her caregivers: Lena Hensley and Gwen Tyler, and other caring friends as well during the final weeks of her life.
