Obituary of Colonel Richard Rudolph Boller (US Army RET.)
Colonel Richard Rudolph Boller (US Army RET.), age 88, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. A graveside service featuring military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday April 7, 2023 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Richard was born August 8, 1934 in Kariuzawa, Japan to Rudolph and Louise Boller. Richard grew up in Elmhurst, IL and was a graduate of York Community High School class of 1952. He attended Miami University, Elmhurst College before receiving his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1961. In 1954, he joined the United States Army. Colonel Boller was known as an outstanding officer, totally professional soldier and lawyer and judge advocate who anticipated and overcame situations before they became problems. He always set high standards for himself, he was compassionate, articulate, aggressive, enthusiastic and was always thinking about ways to improve his lawyers and military justice. Most importantly, he was a devoted family man who was lucky enough to be married to his best friend, Frances. Throughout the years, Frances supported his post activates and were always ready to entertain or help those in need. Richard was a voracious reader and enjoyed documentaries and politics. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife; Frances Overton Boller, his two sons; Paul Boller, Robert Boller, two brother-in-laws; Bruce Overton, Bob Medlin and beloved companion, his Rottweiler, Rudy. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Boller Morales, three grandchildren Jade Boller, Sean Boller, John Murphy, daughter-in-law; Lori Neff and special friends; Sharon Shumaker, Elizabeth Sanchez, Betty and Miles Moriarty, Tina Allen and Ann Caldwell.
