Cruz served in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant and worked in office administration for The Bethlehem Steel Corporation. She was also a Dean Secretary at Warren County Community College in New Jersey. She was a dedicated member of Word of God Ministries in Columbia, South Carolina.
She is survived by her son, John R. Frutchey of Goose Creek, SC; sisters, Diana Roman and Sandra Roman of Gaston, SC, Margaret Gomez of Passaic, NJ, and Agustina Ribbett of Bloomfield, NJ; her grandson, Jonathan of Summerville, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria L. Gonzalez; brothers, Hector Roman and Americo Rodriguez; and stepfather, Gamaliel Roman Garcia.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Cruz at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. An inurnment will take place after the service at 2:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229. A small gathering will immediate follow at a location to be determined.
