David Lee Wilkes passed away on September 5, 2023 at age 67. He was born on April 6, 1956 to Sadie Coker Wilkes and Robert Lee Wilkes of Columbia, South Carolina. The family lived in Savannah, Georgia for a few years but eventually moved back to Lake Murray in Columbia.
David graduated from Young Harris College and was an avid reader and music enthusiast. He and his brother owned and operated a painting business in Columbia for many years. He enjoyed spending time at the lake with his family, boating and fishing. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, and he was an especially big fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team.
David was predeceased by both of his parents and his brother, Allan Wilkes. He is survived by his daughter, Dana Temple; granddaughter, Emmie Temple; sister, Katherine Matthews, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for David at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 3005 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Carolina Wildlife Magazine or Lexington County Public Library.
