Douglas Joseph Wilcox

Doug was born on June 22, 1943, in Columbia, SC, to Alvin and Mary Wilcox. As part of a military family, he lived in many places, including Ethiopia and Germany, before settling in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Georgia Tech on June 10, 1967, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and the next day married Linda on June 11, 1967.

Doug began his 28-year career with Mobil Oil (now ExxonMobil) in Atlanta, GA, which took him and his family to Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Kansas City, Skillman, NJ, and Swedesboro, NJ, before he eventually retired to Blythewood, SC. An avid traveler both for work and leisure, he and Linda enjoyed traveling throughout Europe after his retirement. When he wasn't traveling, Doug took great joy in his 11 German Shepherds over the years, each with their own unique personality.

Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Wilcox; his sister, Linda Sturgeon; his children, Bryan (Jennifer), Phil (Maurey), Maria (Patrick Langford), and Amy Wilcox; his grandchildren, Spencer, Travis, Rachel, Cayden, Kai, Caroline, Meghan, Jack, and Kate; as well as extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Wilcox.

Doug enjoyed working in his yard, his travel experiences, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, and learning new things. He cherished time with his family especially his grandchildren and his German Shepherds.

A celebration of life will be held on October 10th at 1:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home (4219 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC), with visitation starting at 12:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebrate Doug's life.

Doug will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Carolina German Shepherd Rescue.
