Edna Smith Hagell

Edna (Jeri) Smith Hagell passed away on September 4, 2026 at the age of 101. She is survived by her adult children, Barbara Wallace, Ron Hagell, Jr., Patti Hagell, and Bonnie Kelly; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and other extended family. Ms. Hagell was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne Carolina Hagell. Edna was born in Dalzell, South Carolina to Leila Geddings Smith and Richard Sydney Smith. Edna graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dalzell, South Carolina and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.

Ms. Hagell retired from DHEC with 18 years of service. She volunteered for Prisma Baptist Hospital and recently as pianist for Prisma Richland Heart Hospital. Ms. Hagell had many hobbies and interests, including playing piano, gardening, reading and traveling.

She was a member of the Columbia Choral Society, the Shepherd Center, and Saint Martin’s in the Fields Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Saint Martin’s in the Fields Episcopal Church at a later time. Elmwood Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
