

COLUMBIA – Eleanor Rebecca Sotelo, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St John Neumann Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 6:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friends after the Rosary from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Born in Macon, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Edwin and Eleanor Kennington Sherling and the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Mt. de Sales Academy in Macon, GA and then traveled to many cities in the US and abroad while her husband was serving in the military. She retired as an administrative assistant from the Federal Government after 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her large family and her wide circle of friends. Eleanor loved to cook, travel and spent many hours volunteering at her church where she was one of the founding members. She was an active member of the DAR Oliver Morton Chapter in Grey, GA. Surviving is her loving husband, David Sotelo, MSgt, USMC Retired; sisters, Meta (Thaxton) Davis of Macon, GA and Dorothy (Louis) Camerio of Lilburn, GA; brothers, Emmitt (Judy) Sherling of Jeffersonville, GA and Jim (Janet) Sherling of Jonesboro, GA; brother-in-laws, Tommy McDevitt of Barnesville, GA and Jimmy Riggins of Macon, GA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald C. Chestnut, Jr. and two sisters, Barbara McDevitt and Margaret Riggins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 721 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
