Ernestine Barfield Gardner

A memorial service for Ernestine B. Gardner, 90, of Columbia, will be held at 6 o’clock Monday, May 7, 2012 at Eau Claire Baptist Church with The Rev. James Goudelock and The Rev. Kelly Strum officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Eau Claire Baptist Church, 4427 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29203. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Born March 20, 1922 in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Sallie Barfield. She was the youngest of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Frank Gardner, who she married in 1942. She was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church, the Love Sunday School Class and the XYZ Club.

Survivors include her daughters, Gail Gardner (Ron) West, Sandra Gardner Porter; grandson Chris Mattox of Pasadena, CA; granddaughter, Amanda Porter of Irmo.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Bethel Unit at the Heritage at Lowman and to the Lutheran Hospice.
