Garret was born August 22, 1944 to Garret and Virginia Motley Van Seters. He grew up in the Horrell Hill Community and attended Beulah Baptist Church where his mother played the organ for many years. He was a graduate of Dreher High School and The University of South Carolina, where he was active member of the Debate Team.
After college he became the youngest regional manager at UPS helping to expand their Charlotte, NC, Lubbock, TX and South Dakota markets. He returned to South Carolina to be near family and began his long love affair with self employment. As an entrepreneur, he started various businesses in Insurance and always had an interest in computers and new technology. During his free time he shared his love of gardening and woodworking with his father and took fishing trips to Santee with his daughters. He was active in the church for many years, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a Session Member.
When he wasn't working or tending to his garden he could be found in his workshop or watching Westerns. He enjoyed Gunsmoke, The Riflemen, Spaghetti Westerns and Clint Eastwood Movies. In his workshop he made quite a few pieces of furniture for his house like a coffee table, game table and bookshelves to hold many books of the family. He loved knowledge, reading and debating ideas. Garret was a great storyteller of his childhood like catching rattlesnakes and selling their venom at local hospitals to make anti-venom, playing practical jokes on his teachers in high school and many debate team and UPS traveling adventures.
In his later years he enjoyed golfing where he walked the courses and was an unofficial greeter at Lizards Thicket. Garret was a devoted multi Cat grandparent.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Edward Mahlon Van Seters.
Those left to cherish his memories include his two daughters; Yvette Van Seters , Consuela Van Seters and the mother of his children, JoAnn Van Seters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Northeast Presbyterian Church or to the charity of one's choice.
