Gwendolyn Doolin

COLUMBIA - Gwendolyn H. Doolin, passed away at her home Wednesday, May 16, 2012 of congestive heart failure. Born November 21, 1926, in Adel, GA, she was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, James E. Doolin, of Arlington, VA. She was the fourth of seven children of the late Winfred D. Hayes and Ollie Mae Hayes of Cook County, GA. A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Doolin is survived by her son, Jim (Sonia) of Columbia; two grandchildren, Patrick Doolin and Lacy Kemp of Seattle, WA; a brother, CDR Faye Carroll (Gabby) Hayes, USN (ret.) of Virginia Beach, VA and sisters, Betty Sue Goggans of Tifton, GA and Hazel Faircloth of Gainesville, TX. As the loving wife of James E. Doolin, the former owner and CEO of Refrigeration Supply Co., Inc., of Washington, DC, they travelled the world into Asia, Europe and traversed the US coast to coast with all her siblings as Mr. Doolin happily acted as chauffer and chief entertainer. They enjoyed most every weekend for more than twenty years on their boat “Georgia Girl” at Point Lookout, MD on the Chesapeake Bay.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
