Gwen was the best professor I ever had during my 4 years at USC.  She was personable and knowledgeable and just knew how to be so supportive to those of us who were not sure of our chosen profession.  She shepherd me through my nursing school years and  I was lucky to know her as a teacher and as a friend.  When I lived in the honors dorms (and there was no honors in nursing....I just snuck in), they had a function called "Bring your Favorite Teacher" to a Wine and Cheese Party.  I invited her and Opal Brown and I was so proud and honored that they came.   My experience with Gwen taught me how to be a good mentor to other young nurses and helped them publish articles and present at conferences.  What an impact she had on us all.  Very missed.

She was the best nursing instructor I ever had.  Very patient.  I remember not being adequately prepared for a term baby exam and she allowed me to perform this on another day.  i did not have that forgiveness with others.  But she was great.  Because of the wonderful experience, I started my career in maternal child and later went on to Case management.  But she was great. Fun loving and inspirational to us all.

Gwen was my all time favorite nursing instructor.   I was lucky to have her starting in my Fundamentals class.  She was someone who was born with a great sense of humor and would tell stories about Charles and her cat.  But her greatest gift was role modeling how to be supportive.  She was very supportive and we learned how to support each other and our patients.   I consider myself lucky to have had her in my life - she made me a better person. And I thank her for that.

Gwen was a lovely lady both inside and out.   I will always remember  her constant smile and contagious laugh.

I spent the last year getting to know Mrs. Gwen as one of her caregivers. I can honestly say that I love my job and Mrs. Gwen is the reason why. She was so sweet, kind and funny. She made me laugh every day that I spent with her. This past year was very difficult for me personally, but every day that I spent with Mrs. Gwen cheered me up. She helped me get through one of the most difficult years of my life. I loved going into work with her so much. 

Mr. Charles, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have loved witnessing your love and devotion for Mrs. Gwen this past year.  I am grateful that I still get to work with you. 

I will always keep Gwen in my memories. She was such an important part of my professional and personal life. She was my professor, mentor, colleague and most of all friend.  She will be missed so very much and will hold a special place in my heart forever.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of dear Gwen. She was a fantastic colleague, and I am honored I got to work with her. My time in SC was fairly short (5 years), but being able to work with Gwen was a true pleasure and highlight during my career. She was simply a treasure. Gwen was contagious - her smiles, her love for life, her passion for research, her kindness, and her positive energies.  When I worked for her as a research assistant at the University of South Carolina, there was no language and cultural barriers between us.  Ever since I knew Gwen, for the rest of my life I am a fan.  I really miss her.
