IRMO – Funeral services for Helen Josephine Buckley Schmidt, 79, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church with interment at 12:00 Noon in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.

Helen Josephine Schmidt was born in Hastings, NE on July 21, 1931 and passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011. She was a 1950 graduate of Cecilia High School and was a long-time resident of Hastings. She volunteered with the St. Cecilia Altar Society and the March of Dimes. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings for many years and recently became a member of Our Lady of the Hills in Columbia.

Mrs. Schmidt is preceded in death by her dear husband of 49 years, Robert R. Schmidt. She was also predeceased by her brother, John Buckley. Survived by brothers, Leo Patrick, Jr., James O., Jerome and William Buckley; sisters, Peg Braunsdorf, Mary Lou Sweeten and Betty Hamouz; son, Robert P. Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Stacey; 3 grandsons, Robert P. Jr., Raymond H. and Richard S. Schmidt.

Mrs. Schmidt’s family would like to thank Carolyn Howard and Paula Processor and all the staff at Harbor Chase of Columbia for the loving care they provided Helen the past 2 ½ years.
