
Margareta Cashin (nee Lindström) passed away peacefully at home with her husband at her side on July 22, 2026, after an 11-year battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Uppsala, Sweden on January 9, 1945, Margareta was the second child of Dr. Harald and Inga Britta Lindström. She obtained her nursing certificate from Sahlgrenska Hospital in Sweden, her bachelors in nursing from Shiraz University in Iran, and her masters in nursing from U.C. San Francisco.
She served 4 years as a missionary in Iran under Operation Mobilization. She studied missions at The U.S. Center for World Mission in Pasadena, California, in 1979 where she met her husband David. They helped to start the first Persian language Christian fellowship there. After their marriage in 1979 they served in Sweden and then in Bangladesh as missionaries for 9 years. Their first child, Michael, was born in Sweden and Peter and Thomas, in Bangladesh.
They moved to Sweden in 1991 and then back to America in 1995. Margareta worked as a nurse in America until her retirement in 2010. She helped her husband pastoring two churches in Sweden and started the scouting group at Johannesburg's Baptist Church. She was involved in leading Bible studies and home groups most of her adult life. She was a world traveler who visited more than 30 countries and was fluent in five languages.
Margareta loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She was an evangelist sharing the Gospel with many people. She had a special heart for Muslims to hear the Gospel. Iran and Bangladesh were nations she deeply loved.
Margareta is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, her older sister Barbro, younger brother Björn, her sons Michael (Juliana), Peter (Helena) and Thomas (Emmelie), and 9 grandchildren, Joseph, Naomi, Sophie, Nathalie, Caleb, Joshua, Isabelle, Jessica and Isaac.
The family wishes to thank the caregiver’s and especially the Nursing and SMIM students from Columbia International University who aided in her care during the final 3 years. We are also very grateful to Hospice for their help during the final 5 months.
