
The funeral service for Jacqueline Bland Broome, 76, of Blythewood, will be held 11 o’clock, Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Shives Funeral Home Chapel, with The Rev. Mark Wendland officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 1 o’clock. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock, Tuesday evening, at the funeral home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America, 511 Violet St, West Columbia, SC 29169.
Mrs. Broome died Monday, December 19, 2011. Born in Columbia, on February 22, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Tobias and Mary Bell Rogers Bland. She was a beloved mother to her children, Larry and Lynn. Mrs. Broome was an income tax preparer with H&R Block, and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. To her family and friends, she was the sweetest woman who ever walked the earth.
Survivors include her son, Lawrence A. Broome II of Blythewood; Lynn Broome Jamison of Columbia; grandchildren, Ryan, Tricia, Tracey, Tanya, Larry III, Ciara and Joy; her great grandchildren who called her “Gigi”: Ashley, Jericho, Shawn, Daniella, and Laurence; sisters, Jimmie B. Garrett, June B. Cubbage and Sybil B. Kosick. In addition to her parents, Jacqueline was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lawrence Allen Broome, US Navy, Ret’d.; and sisters, Mary Jo Bland and Betty E. Pettis.
