COLUMBIA - A memorial service for James “Jimmy” John Gastgeber, 69, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gastgeber died Friday, May 21, 2021. Born June 20, 1951, in South Amboy, N.J., he was a son of the late Vendel and Eleanor Gastgeber. He graduated from Middlesex County College in Metuchen, N.J., and was a social worker for the state of New Jersey for over 25 years, helping those with disabilities. He loved helping people. He also enjoyed gardening, antiques, cooking, crabbing and singing. He loved his daughter and his grandchildren more than anything.
Surviving are his daughter, Kate Paull (Jared) of Lexington; grandchildren, Tyler, Landon and Harper Paull; sister, Linda Brener (Andy) of Elgin; niece, Abby Hughes; nephews, Ben and Nick Brener; great niece, Riley Hughes; great nephews, Chase and Brody Hughes.
