COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Janet Thompson, 80, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2017 at Awaken Church, 171 Newland Rd., Columbia, SC 29229. The family will receive friends at the residence on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Mrs. Thompson passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017. She was born in Essex, Great Britain on January 5, 1937 to the late, Joseph Edward Newman and Hilda Edith Rudkin Newman. She worked at Ft. Jackson’s Commissary. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved knitting and crafts.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Thompson; six children; twelve grandchildren; nine, great-grandchildren and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 140 Stoneridge Dr. Ste. 210, Columbia, SC 29210.
