
COLUMBIA - A graveside service with military honors for Jimmy Adams, 83, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Adams died Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Born in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Kenneth Rust and Mary Bell DeHaven Adams. Jim was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy beginning in 1962. He was a Hospital Corpsman who loved his sea time on the USS Truckee in the Mediterranean Sea and on the USS San Jose during Vietnam. He retired in 1983 after tours of duty in Philadelphia, Honolulu and Bethesda, Md.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Marie Emmons Adams; sons, Robert Allen Adams (Tara), James Frederick Adams (Michelle); daughter, Tracey Marie Perkins (Bill); grandchildren, Alexander and Abigail; brother, Jerry Adams; sister, Kaye Rush (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews & great-nieces & great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Kenneth James Adams; siblings, Steve Adams, Shirley Jackson, Faye Carver; and grandson, Kenneth.
Jimmy kept busy in his neighborhood as the ‘fix-it’ man. He loved designing and building custom woodworking projects. He also participated in a local Veteran’s group. He was a friend to all and always willing to help others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 1 – 3 PM at his home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to “Wreaths Across America”.
