Born on February 18, 1933, Joan lived a life defined by devotion, compassion, and an unwavering love for others. To know her was to be cared for, prayed over, and welcomed with warmth — often with a cup of coffee and a piece of chocolate close at hand.
Joan was the proud and loving mother of Stephanie Haley, Susan Bobo, Diane Tucker, and Stacey Payton. She was a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren and a joyful great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. But her family extended far beyond bloodlines. Through her nearly 26 years serving in the nursery at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, Joan helped care for and nurture generations of children — lovingly earning her place in the hearts of what has to be about 100 little ones from the church nursery who were blessed to be held, rocked, and prayed over by her.
Her life revolved around those children. She loved every minute she spent serving in the church nursery, and her life’s work was simple yet profound: taking care of people and loving them like family. She had a gift for making others feel safe, valued, and deeply loved.
Joan’s legacy is one of faithfulness, kindness, and steady presence. The love she poured into her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless church families will continue to ripple through generations. She leaves behind a family bound together by the very love she modeled so beautifully.
A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on March 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor the remarkable woman whose love touched so many lives.
She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.
