He was an events stage-hand for basketball games and concerts at Carolina Coliseum, a stage-hand for several local bands who toured the Southeast, and a parking attendant for years at Seawells for the Carolina football games and state fairs. I haven't seen Joel in a long time, but as I sit here remembering him, I have a huge smile on my face from some great memories that are as clear as day. He was a kind person and loved life to the full with whomever he was with. He will be missed by all who knew him. My prayers are for comfort to family and friends.

Worked with Joel in the '80s also a truck loader. I will always remember Joel as a tough guy on the outside but kind soul.

Ahhh, Joel . . . always smiling, always helping others. What a true friend! Deidra, Eric, and family - you are all in my prayers as you navigate through this heartbreaking time. It's been many years but I always smiled when I thought of Joel, always! And I will continue to smile knowing he is in no more pain and surely having a blast up above! Peace and much love, Stephanie Birch, xo.

Deidra, I am so sorry! I had not seen Joel in years. The good times we did have here at the Coliseum back in the day. He was always the character with the jokes and the smile. Seems he was loved by many. RIP Joel.

Willie and Deidra,
We are so very sorry to hear of Joel's passing. He struggled for a long time with his health. May he be rewarded in the next life. You and your family are in our prayers. May God be with you all.

With deepest sympathy to the Keigley family & Joel's love Deidra. I actually met Joel in the 6th grade at Hood St. Elementary School on Ft. Jackson when we were both Army brats. I'm not sure when he moved off base, but I was there 2 more years and took the bus to 7th & 8th and then moved off base and continued going to the same schools thru Richland Northeast. We also shared the fact we were both born in France in 1963. He was always so happy and making the best of things. I remember in 6thgrade he would have to tell the teachers that they were not pronouncing his name correctly. He would say " Joel like Noel" haha he was funny. Again my deepest sympathies to Deidra, his family & friends.
