COLUMBIA - A funeral service for John Thomas Franklin Asher Jr., 80, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, with visitation following the service at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Mr. Asher died Saturday, August 3, 2024. Born in Dover, Del., he was a son of the late John Thomas Franklin Asher Sr. and Grace Develbis Asher. He retired from the U.S. Army with 27 years of service. He was a member of Rehoboth Church and Dentsville Masonic Lodge 398. He retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company following 27 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Joyce Ann Armstrong Asher; two sons, John Thomas Franklin Asher III and Jason Edward Asher (Nicole), all of Philadelphia, Penn.; one grandson, Blaise; sister, Jackie Leeds (Steve); and a brother-in-law, Rev. Chris Drew. He was predeceased by two sisters, Judy Richardson and Joyce Drew.
