I had the pleasure of working with John at IP many years before I retired in 2019.
I was saddened and shocked to know of John’s passing just this week.
God has an awesome angel in heaven now.
I so enjoyed John’s smile, watching him walk across the parking lot and his spirit of kindness and helpfulness was inspiring.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your and our loss. It was my pleasure to know John. God bless and keep you.

John was one of those people you count yourself fortunate to have known. I had the honor of working with him from 92 up until I left the mill in 07. We still exchanged emails and phone calls from time to time though. It was always a good day to see a John Dance email in my inbox. I could count on it being a humorous note about something going on at the mill we had shared a laugh about in the past. Over the last couple of days I've been remembering some of the conversations we had and all of the laughter. I can't say that I've met anyone else quite like him. I'll miss you John, you were special.

John was always a very talented, funny and likable person. I always looked forward to working with John when he would come over and help us in the Utilities area of the mill during outages and with our CEMS environmental computers. He will be missed by all.

I always enjoyed working with John. He was my go to computer guy. I really loved that he the Star Trek Door device in his office.
He taught me a lot and was great to work with.
John will be greatly missed.

As I read through other coworkers memories, I realized how spot on they are. I also, had the great pleasure to know John for 30 years, working mostly closely with him in the paper test lab where he serviced and calibrated our paper testing equipment. His wit and sense of humor were tremendous and always lifted our spirits. His technical expertise was almost unparalleled and together with his partner in crime Randy they were truly the Dynamic Duo. In spite on some shenanigans, you could count on them to troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment. I will miss you my friend.

John was like a brother to me, he always had witty sayings and words of advice for me. I've only known him for less than a decade but he helped me become a lot less introverted at work. I will always remember the time that we went to work on a radio tower and we joked about not seeing a snake knowing I was seriously afraid of them. We pulled up with the truck and low and behold there was an anaconda sized rat snake that took up the length of the truck on the side we were sitting at. He laughed and joked with me about it until we were able to get it done almost making me forget about the snake. He was a kind hearted individual that never ran away from an opportunity to teach me things even when I was slow on the uptake. Absolutely one of the funniest people I have ever met and he will be missed.

I have known John for almost 30 years. Always enjoyed talking with him and made me think and laugh.
During these years, he had never ceased to impress me with his technical acumen. On various occasions, I had the
opportunity to work with him on various Acquidata IA workstations in the QA Lab. He was always very easy to talk to and work with and extremely reliable.
During the years I have known John, he is one of the most brilliant persons I have come across, including in both hardware and software. Will always remember the time I had opportunity to spend with him and will miss him.

I would stop by John's office regularly for a boost. He was always good for a laugh, either a story, his insight into "what was really going on" or get the latest nickname for someone that somehow always seemed to fit. I always left chuckling, even when it was at my own expense. For all the jokes and pranks, John was one of the smartest people I've ever worked with. He really could do it all, from computers to golf carts, he could fix it. I don't think John ever turned down a request for help. You could always count on John. He will be missed.
