John Miller Goodman
January 6, 1951 – November 25, 2019
COLUMBIA- John Miller Goodman, Jr., 68, passed away November 25, 2019. A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Blythewood Presbyterian Church with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Johnny will be buried beside his parents at Northeast Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
Johnny was born January 6, 1951 in Aiken, SC to John and Mary Frances Goodman. He was special in many ways and never let his disability stop him from enjoying life and loving others. He was a resident of various Babcock Center group homes for the past 37 years around the Midlands where the staff took loving care of him. Johnny was always quick to let us know “I have an idea in the back of my head” and to seek to be a part of everyone’s business and tell us what we needed to do! But he did not have a complicated view of life – he loved family, food, and other people, in no particular order, and always sought to fill himself and his life with these loves. He loved to go and spend time with family and spoke of his extended family often. He never met a stranger and wanted to be friends with everyone he met. We could all learn lessons about how to live life from him. Johnny will be greatly missed but we rejoice that he has now joined his parents in God’s presence.
He is survived by brothers, Bill (Carla) of Atlanta, Dicky (Debbie) of Spartanburg, and Brooks (Teresa) of Ridgeway, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom are glad he is part of our family.
Memorials may be made to the Babcock Center, Inc., P.O. Box 4389, West Columbia, SC 29171. The family would also like to express deep appreciation to the staff of Babcock for loving him so well.
