COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Landy Bowers, Jr., 97, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Spencer Branham, David Erskine III, David Erskine IV, Jim Elliott and Dale Stokes. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Bowers passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Born in Kershaw County, SC, he was a son of the late Landy Bowers, Sr. and Bessie Peach Bowers. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. After his service, Landy worked as a cotton mill weaver and later delivered for the Charles Chips Company. A hardworking and humble man, he also raised chickens and could often be found enjoying a cup of coffee with friends at the corner store. One of his favorite things to do was sitting in his chair under the tree in his yard. In his younger years, he found joy in gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are his stepdaughter, Barbara D. Hill (Tommy); sister, Mary McGee; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Vivina P. Drader; stepdaughters, Diane Caywood and Kay Bowers; stepson, Bobby Drader; brothers, Guy Bowers, Paul Bowers, and Robert Bowers; and sisters, Pearl Folsom, Ruby Folsom, Viola Stokes, and Betty Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cassatt Baptist Church, 2604 Hwy 1 North, Cassatt, SC 29032.
