

The funeral service for Linda Darnell Jacobs Lee Gilbert, 69, of Lugoff, will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Spears Creek Baptist Church, 116 Spears Creek Church Ln, Elgin. The Reverend Stuart Jacobs will officiate. Burial will follow at Spears Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock, Friday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
Mrs. Gilbert died Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Born in Columbia on November 18, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Otto M. and Gladys B. Peake Jacobs. Linda graduated from Dentsville High School and went on to receive a two year degree from Columbia Business College. She was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church and Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She formerly worked with the Elgin Watch Company, the Bendix Corporation, and lastly in the attendance office at Spring Valley High School. Linda retired from Richland School District 2 in 1992, and spent many of her retirement years with her family. She was known for her good cooking and generosity to family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Lee Yarborough and husband, Scott, of Winnsboro, Melinda Peake and husband, Jimmy Wayne Peake, Jr.; second husband, Ernest F. Gilbert; granddaughter, Ashlenn Peake; step-grandchildren, Shelbie and Timmy Yarborough; sisters, Faye Hornsby and Marsene Jacobs; brothers, Ricky Jacobs and wife, Charley, and Chris Jacobs; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Lee, and her brother, Toby Jacobs.
