Margaret Jane Ploss

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy W. Ploss; her daughter, Doreen; and her beloved grandson, Austin Vent.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Donald (wife Pamela), Debra (husband Craig), Diane (husband Mark), and Donna (husband Sal). She also leaves behind her adored remaining grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a community that will deeply miss her generous spirit and unwavering kindness. Peggy will be deeply missed by her sister Phyllis DeWitt, sister-in-law Carol Decker, many cousins, nieces, nephews and the wonderful friends she made at the Inspire at Sandhill community where she lived for the past few years.

Born on February 5, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Arthur and Jane Austin, Peggy grew up in Bergen County and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Roy. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on family, hard work, and service.

Her greatest joy was her family. Peggy was the ultimate cheerleader for her active grandchildren. She rarely missed an event, regularly appearing in the stands or auditoriums to support them. Whether it was a soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, football, or field hockey game, a cheer competition, or a band and orchestra concert, her grandchildren always knew they had her unconditional love and support.

Peggy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a longtime, active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, New York, she served faithfully as a church Deacon and a member of the Session. She possessed a servant’s heart and was always ready to volunteer wherever there was a need. Her community involvement extended far and wide through the Order of the Eastern Star, Habitat for Humanity in Newburgh, the Newburgh Free Academy Wrestling Boosters Club, and the Red Hat Society.

A date for a memorial tribute and internment are being finalized. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s name to Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, New York, or to Habitat for Humanity.
