
A memorial service for Mary Hanna Miles Eastlake, 62, of Gaston will be held 11:00 o’clock, Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, with The Rev. Brandon Goff officiating. Inurnment will follow at 1:00 o’clock at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the graveside service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Miles. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Eastlake died Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Born on August 21, 1948, in Clarksburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late SSGT James E. Hanna, US Army (Ret.), and Addie Lee Hill Hanna. She had a military upbringing in that her dad and all five uncles served in combat units in World War II. Mary was raised at various military bases in the USA and Europe. Her family settled in the Ft. Jackson area where she attended Dreher High School. She later married Wallace Miles who served in the US Army, 1st Air Cavalry Division and was stationed in Kentucky. Her two boys were born in 1969 and 1970. She was married to John Sherman Eastlake, US Army (Ret), and later lived in the Grand Canyon National Park for several years.
Survivors include her boys, James Miles and wife, Gloria, of Columbia, Curtis Miles and wife, Pam, of Lugoff; and grandchildren, Megan, Ansley, Katie, James Erin, Conner, Sam and Hannah. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her late husband, John Eastlake.
