
CHAPIN – Mary Alice Blackham Morse, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Chapin, SC on Monday, May 27, 2013, surrounded by her family and caretakers.
Born in Wilmington, NC on March 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Blackham, Sr. and Jane Aloysius Knowles Blackham. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School, Wilmington, NC and East Carolina Teachers College, Greenville, NC.
She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Morse, Sr. to whom she was married for 54 years. She was also predeceased by sisters, Allegra B. Daughtry, Gwendolyn B. Stanford, Elizabeth Aloysius Blackham, Juanita B. Straine and brother, Thomas Blackham, Jr.
Surviving are her son, James H. Morse, Jr. (Vicki); granddaughter, Ashleigh Lane Morse; grandson, James H. Morse, III all of Columbia, SC and sister, Rachel B. Dean of Roanoke Rapids, NC and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Heritage at Lowman Chapel with a private interment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 31, 2013 1 hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage at Lowman, Lutheran Hospice and devoted caretakers: Ms. Evon Wooden, Ms. Kim Bates, Ms. Mary Hill, Ms. Linda McDonald, Ms. Angel Hanna, Ms. Pamela Speaks and Ms. Martha Wilson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Lutheran Hospice of South Carolina, 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
