On January 9, 2023, it’s with great sadness that we announce Nancy Marilyn Amick Ewing has passed away at the age of 86 after a stay at The Columbia Presbyterian Community in Lexington, South Carolina.
Born May 6, 1936 to Virgil Hite Amick, Sr. and Merle Kelly Amick of Columbia, SC. She graduated from Columbia High School. Living in Columbia her entire life, she worked at several downtown Columbia department stores and Fort Jackson before meeting and marrying the love of her life, William Bryan Ewing, Jr. on June 9, 1957.
She was a loving wife, mother and “Nanny”. She enjoyed her family and home more than anything. Over the years, she hosted many large gatherings of family and friends. Some of our greatest family memories are of Fourth of July, Halloween and Christmas parties. She was always one to cook enough to feed the entire neighborhood. She and my father loved their weekend stays at Garden City Beach and the Blowing Rock/Boone areas in the North Carolina mountains. But more than anything, she was the most wonderful, comforting, caring, loving mother one could ever hope for. She was the same with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Nanny always wanted to make everyone feel loved, cared for and special.
She is survived by her two sons, William Bryan Ewing, III (Sandra J. Ewing) of Lexington and Virgil Alan Ewing (Lisa G. Ewing) of Columbia; one brother, Thomas Eugene Amick, Sr.; five grandchildren, Taylor Willer, Ashlyn Faulk, Chloe Ewing, Carson Ewing and Cooper Ewing along with three great grandchildren, Addie Willer, Greyson Faulk and Abel Willer as well as many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Bryan Ewing, Jr; three brothers, David Barry Amick, Sr., Virgil Hite Amick, Jr. and Richard Wayne Amick.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.elmwoodfhcolumbia.com for the Ewing family.
