COLUMBIA – Ralph William “Bill” Seitz, Jr., 80, was born in Wilmington, Delaware, August 17, 1940, the son of Virginia Scanlan Seitz and Ralph William, Sr. He entered eternal peace on February 16, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
Bill attended local schools in Wilmington and went on to graduate from the Pennsylvania Military College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in Military Service for several years. He was employed by DuPont de Nemours, Inc. for 40 years, as an Electrical Engineer. He served as an Electrical Engineer Consultant for DuPont with a specialty in electrical relay systems for large power plants nationwide. He served in this capacity traveling extensively with DuPont facilities in over 14 countries until retirement.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church participating in activities supporting the youth and was an usher for church services. Bill was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with the men’s group several days each week at the Columbia Country Club and was a loyal fan and supporter of the Gamecocks and Eagles. Bill had a love for antique cars, restoring them with original materials to near perfect condition. Bill always enjoyed working with his hands, fixing anything broken as evidenced by the number of golf carts, golf clubs, and other mechanical items repaired for friends. Bill took a special pride in manicuring his lawn, greens, and gardening. When not on the golf course, he could usually be found working in his yard. Bill will be remembered for his generosity and consideration for others. He was a quiet, reserved man and always pulled others up by reaching out when they needed him.
Mr. Seitz was predeceased by his parents, and son, Ralph William Seitz, III. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Jan Player Seitz; daughter, Kimberlee Anne Seitz; stepson, Mark Russell Player, Sr. (MaryAnne); sister, Donna Seitz Smith (Bill), and grandchildren, Mark Russell Player, Jr. and Devon Nicole Player.
The family suggests memorials be made to the S.C. Oncology Center, Columbia, and Trinity United Methodist Church, Blythewood, SC.

I was Bill’s roommate in our sophomore year at Pennsylvania Military College (PMC). Bill was already a member of PMC’s Pershing Rifles national champion competitive drill team, having been selected among many competing cadets in our freshman year. Bill encouraged me to “pledge” Pershing Rifles myself; and, he was very generous with his coaching skills—so much so that, after months of arduous training, I was able to join him on that winning team. I am still very grateful for his help.

Bill was one of my primary mentors when I joined the electrical consulting group with DuPont Engineering in 1972. He guided me on my very first field assignment when I met him at Corpus Christi, Texas. We spent the week together testing and starting up heavy electrical power equipment there, and at many DuPont plants in years to come. I will always remember his considered guidance in the technical details and how to maintain family connections with a life on the road.
