COLUMBIA – SFC Raymond Lee Thompson, U.S. Army retired, 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel.
Born in Santa Rosa, CA, he was a son of the late Arthur Eugene and Clara Louise Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Healdsburg High School and after graduation; he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army earning the Bronze Star. After retirement from the military, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a carrier and retiring after 20 years of service. He was a friendly person whom never met a stranger. Raymond loved being outdoors especially gardening and fishing, enjoying all animals especially feeding the birds. He enjoyed working on all types of electronics, radios and televisions. He also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of IZAAK Walton League of America and the American Legion.
Surviving is his loving wife of sixty years, Ludwiga L. Thompson; daughters, Valerie A. (Gary) Brunson of Columbia, Selina A. (Ronald) Graham of Stafford, Va. and Lila M. (Arthur) Lindholm of Nokesvilla, Va.; grandchildren, Brianna, Ashley, Darron, Michelle, Olivia, Callie, Alexandra; great-grandchildren, Carter, Brady, Hailey and Noah; sister, Virginia Costillo of Santa Rosa, Ca. and several nieces and nephews.
