Richard A. Briggs Sr.

PROSPERITY – Mr. Richard A. Briggs, Sr., age 87, was called home on Thursday, June 9, 2011. He died peacefully at home looking at his beloved lake. He was a very loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Born in Canandaigua, New York, he served as a Navy pilot in WWII. He retired from IBM after 44 years of service.

Our father was very generous of heart, loved his neighbors and never met a stranger.

Mr. Briggs leaves behind a son, Richard Briggs, Jr.; daughters, Christine Rankin, Lisa Baldwin, and Beverly Branham; stepson, Bobby Turner; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); two brothers, John and Bill Briggs both of New York.

He loved the Lord and we know in his passing he is now fishing in heaven with our grandfather.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family.
