Robert B. Barnes

COLUMBIA - Robert B. Barnes, 77, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born October 24, 1938 in Fitzgerald, GA, the son of the late Bradley Barnes and Thelma Alma Yancey Barnes.

Mr. Barnes served proudly in the United States Army from December 15, 1954 until June 30, 1975 during Korean Conflict Era, Vietnam War and Peacetime. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Civil Action Unit Citation, and Safe Drivers Badge.

Surviving are his sons, Robert Barnes (Sharon) of Georgia, Dennis Barnes (Kathy), Michael Barnes (Beth) and John Barnes all of South Carolina; daughter Verena Accettella (Michael) of Louisiana; brothers, Jack Barnes (Bobbie Joan), Marlin Barnes and Lamar Barnes, all of Georgia, and Arlin Barnes of Pennsylvania; sister, Geneva Barnes Wallace of Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Elmo and J.W. Barnes.
