Robert DeVore

WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Robert H. DeVore, PhD, 76, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church with inurnment on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 400 River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 or to Friends of Irmo Branch Library, 6251 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212.

Mr. DeVore was born December 30, 1936 in Bellefonte, PA and passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was a son of the late Lloyd Thomas DeVore and Mary McClure DeVore. He received his BA at the University of Illinois, Masters and PhD from the University of Arizona. He taught at numerous universities and colleges including Buena Vista College, Vorhees, Johnson C. Smith, Houston Commercial College, Newberry College and Midlands Technical College.

Surviving are his beloved caregiver and dear friend, Barbara DeVore of Columbia; son, James Henry DeVore (Cindy) of Metamora, Il; daughter, Amy Elizabeth DeVore Lambert (Dr. Stephen Lambert) of Azusa, CA; son, Thomas Andrew Lloyd Clinton Johnston McClure DeVore (Bandi) of Columbia; grandchildren, Penelope DeVore, Jonathon (Angela) DeVore, Jeremiah DeVore, Kat DeVore, Christopher DeVore; great-grandchildren, Sonny and Cheyenne DeVore; brothers, John (Anna) DeVore of Santa Barbara, CA, Thomas McClure DeVore (Lyn) of Atascadero, CA.
