Dear Charlie, Rich, Stephanie and Marybeth,
I am saddened to hear of Rube's passing. As you may remember Rube, Rich and I were great friends growing up. Last week I happened to be passing the old homestead (422 Thornton, Phone # 66988) and I thought of Rube shoveling snow from the playground basketball court so he could shoot some hoops. Funny the things you remember 50+ years later like how the back porch of the White house had more playground equipment than the playground or how Rube tore out Rich's first and last 10 pages of the Tarzan book he was reading so he would give Rube the softball he had been hiding. I'm sure Rube has found a playground or golf course in Heaven.
My Best,
Dick dickturner563@yahoo.com

Rube hired me in 1979 to work at SCSH, as an activity therapist. I retired in 2017 activity therapist from DMH, he took a chance on a bunch of us right out of college. Rube with others in leadership did so much to positively promote mental health awareness. Community events such as Mayfest, carnivals at Woidhill Mall, floats in parades, Walks for the MI at the State House to SCSH campus, all this was positive awareness of the population we served. He will be missed.

Great memories of Rube as my condo neighbor in the 70's when we both worked at the State Hospital. Tried several times to reconnect over the years but we were never able to play that last round of golf so Julian and I will plan to attend the service on Wednesday then play that last round in your honor and great memory my friend.
