

ELGIN - Ruby Adaline Deanhardt Blaylock, 84, died Tuesday evening, June 17, 2014, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. The beloved wife of Ret. Command Sgt. Major Samuel Luther Blaylock, Jr., Ruby was born in Anderson, South Carolina on January 20, 1930 to the late Wallace Edgar and Blake Turner Deanhardt.
Ruby's life revolved around her loving husband, her children and grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and her church, Northeast United Methodist, of which she was a charter member. She spent her time and shared her heart in service to each of them.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lynn Blaylock; her daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Sheila Sullivan, all of Columbia; and daughter, Pamela Helms of Chapin. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Melissa Deaver, Matthew Deaver, Cameron Blaylock and Blake Edens Helms; and five great-grandchildren, Warren, Jolie, Tristan, Matthew and Lacy, all of whom she loved dearly. Ruby will also be dearly missed by her close friends, Saundra Nicks, Debra Sellers and Lena Cody, each of whom played a large role in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Liles, Grace Gilstrap and Ophelia Wallace; and son-in-law, William Edgar Helms, III.
Friends may call Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel in Columbia. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Northeast United Methodist Church in Columbia. A graveside service will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Elgin. A lunch reception will be held after the burial at Northeast United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Matthew Deaver, Warren Deaver, Cameron Blaylock, Larry Snipes, Lawrence Snipes and Earl Breazeale, all family and close friends.
