Born on December 4, 1963, in Greenville, SC, Stewart was the son of the late Lennie David Jones and Margaret Owings Blank.
Stewart is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Dea Bishop Jones of Columbia, sister Tempie Bowers (Joe) of Columbia, a nephew, Anderson Bowers of Columbia, and numerous cousins.
Stewart graduated from Eastside High School in Taylors, SC. He earned his B.A. in English and an M.Ed in Higher Education from his beloved University of South Carolina. He worked in higher education in the Financial Aid Office for both the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina before changing career tracks to become a proposal writer. He worked for IKON Copier Services before becoming a proposal manager for BP Barber and Associates Engineering Firm, which later joined with URS Corporation, then AECom, Engineering Consultants.
A voracious fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, Stewart was a proud Gamecock Club member from childhood up to the present day. He was exceptionally proud that his spouse, sister and brother-in-law, and nephew were USC graduates.
Stewart loved all animals, and they adored him. He was especially devoted to family pets over the years including Duke, Mr. Bibbitt, Mr. Cheswick, Josh and Cody, Tuna, Jeeves, and Winston. Throughout his adult life, he gave generously to organizations that helped rescue and protect abused or injured animals.
A Memorial Service celebrating Stewart's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Living Springs Lutheran Church. The family will receive guests immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to your favorite animal rescue organization, or a favorite charity, in Stewart’s memory.
