

Columbia: Sylvia Diane Amos, 82, of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Born on October 30, 1928 in Martinsville, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Alva Dale Smith and Marjorie Badgley Smith. Diane was the widow of Mr. Clifford Amos whom she married on September 13, 1945. She served as the Chief of Staff of the Medical Media Department for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Miami, FL, as well as serving in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Florida. She was a professional photographer and a graduate of Indiana University. Diane was a loving wife, devoted mother, and an amazing grandmother. She enjoyed nature, science, a good joke, Scrabble, and collecting antiques, but most of all she found joy in her family.
Mrs. Amos is survived by her brother, Max Smith; sister, Louanne Champlin; daughter, Linda Todd; son, Craig Amos (Nancy); grandsons, David Amos, Jim Amos, Jon Amos, and Jeremiah Amos; granddaughters, Leesa Benggio, Laurie Newkirk, and Marjorie Schoolcraft; and 14 great-grandchildren: Abby, Katie, Jacob, Kira, Kyla, Levi, Victor, Christopher, Elijah, Zachary, Maurice IV, Ethan, Savannah, and McKenzee.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The Agape Foundation, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169.
